WIMBORNE MINSTER is an historic market town in the valley of the River Stour, some 5 miles north of Poole. The core of the town is centred on its medieval Minster Church and contains within its Conservation Area, many buildings of historic interest.
In spite of its close location to the Poole/Bournemouth conurbation, and the presence of two large supermarket chains, Wimborne has managed to retain its own identity with a thriving town centre which still includes many independent retailers.
The town has a library, 6 schools, a day centre and an adult education centre. It also has a thriving cultural life, with its own theatre (Tivoli), a museum, an Art and Craft Centre and Community Centre. The town has a population of 9,180 (excluding the suburbs of Merley and Colehill), with 7,717 electors.
