LYTCHETT MATRAVERS lies on open, rising countryside about 3 miles to the north-west of Poole. The original village straddled the east-west route of Huntick Road/High Street, but has been developed with several housing estates on all sides of the crossroads with Wareham Road.

The parish has a population of 3,421, with 2,691 on the electoral role. Many commute to work in the nearby Poole/Bournemouth conurbation. The village has two pubs, a school, health clinic and a parade of neighbourhood shops.

MORDEN is a small, rural village about 1 mile south-west of Lytchett Matravers, with a population of 260. Much of the parish is farmland and many of the buildings form part of the Charborough Park (Drax) estate.
